Setting

b10_salon.jpeg (17325 bytes)The Wiener Meisterkurse takes place at the Conservatory of Music of Vienna. The program has been in operation since 1975 and is for talented and gifted young artists from all countries. The Master Courses give artists the opportunity to receive instruction from internationally known teachers and leading artists, as well as to work out problems of their own artistic development. Preparatory courses are available for intermediate and advanced levels. Special emphasis is placed on the interpretation of music which has been composed in Austria and neighboring German-speaking countries. The programs provide excellent modern facilities for instruction and private practice.

Courses

Classes include 20 hours per week, with 15 students admitted per class.

Preparatory Courses

Piano
Violin
Flute
Opera, Lied and Vocal Techniques

There is no an examination at the beginning of the course. The basic requirements include adequate mastery of the instrument or the voice, and recommendation of a school or a teacher.

These courses aim at strengthening the artists’ technical competence. They are designed for students who wish to upgrade their training program by getting into contact with outstanding artists and to obtain a professional opinion on their current artistic standard. The courses primarily serve to prepare for entrance examinations to high ranking music schools and to the master classes of the Wiener Meisterkurse.

While students enroll for one course, they may attend (as an auditor) the Master Classes being held at the same time.

Master Classes

Voice (Opera, Oratorio, Lieder, Concert)
Piano

Students may be active participants or auditors. On the first day of the course, individuals who wish active status have an audition, and the instructor of the master class decides who will be the active participants. (The European Heritage Institute can arrange for a preliminary assessment of an applicant’s level.)

Twenty lessons are given each week. The auditor group will receive an additional 4 hours of lecture time per course.

While students enroll for one course, they may attend (as an auditor) all other courses being held at the same time.

Language of classes

Classes are taught in English and other languages. Participants are from many countries, and questions and discussions related to an individual’s performance may occur in different languages.
