3-Cities Semester Program

This is a special semester program that offers study in three cities -- Tuscania, Rome, and Florence/Venice --during one semester and focuses on the roots of western culture. Students have the opportunity to retrace the steps of Greek, Etruscan, Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance cultures by living and studying in three cities which embody these civilizations in all their richness and splendor.

The Spring 2012 program includes the cities of Tuscania, Rome and Venice while the Fall 2011 program includes Tuscania, Rome and Florence. Students spend one month in Tuscania followed by one month in Rome, then they complete the experience in Venice (Spring) or Florence (Fall). They follow a stuctured and integrated program of five 3-credit courses, which together comprise both a unique investigation into the roots of Western civilization and a solid grounding in Italian language and culture. Click to see the description of the Fall 2011 3-Cities Program (Fall 2012 will be similar) and Spring 2012 3-Cities Program. See the Course section below for the listing of courses.

Certificate Programs

The program's philosophy is to stimulate and develop the potential creativity of the student, providing not only the technical means but also the conceptual insight necessary for the development of any artistic talent. Students with interest in a specific area of Studio Arts, Design, or Restoration and Conservation may wish to pursue a Study Certificate or Professional Certificate as part of their academic program and as a step toward accomplishing professional goals.

During the course of one year, students can broaden formative experience by participating in artistic projects, guided by instructors who are critically acclaimed professionals operating in the fields offered by the Program. Students receive a Study Certificate for one year of study and a Professional Certficate for two years of study, except for Fine Arts which requires two years for a Study Certificate. Students who have already studied the subject area may enter at a higher level contingent on approval after review of student's portfolio..

Certificates are offered for the following art and design areas. Choose from:

  • Fine Arts (2 years for Certificate)
  • Visual Arts
  • Restoration And Conservation
  • Graphic Design and Visual Communication
  • Fashion Design
  • Fashion Marketing and Merchandising
  • Interior Design
  • Jewelry Art and Design
  • Except for Fine Arts, all areas are offered for one and two years, with a Study Certificate for the first year and Professional Certificate. Each (professional) study area features specialized courses and Italian. For information on Cerficate courses and descriptions, see the Art and Design Certificate Catalogue.
