The city is rich in art and history. During the Renaissance, Florence was the intellectual and artistic capital of Europe, and the Medici, originally a banking family, dominated the city and became patrons of the arts. The city was home to the most celebrated writers and artists in history: Giotto, Donatello, Ghiberti, Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Dante. The artists and their patron family have left their presence everywhere, in awesome monuments and museums which include Michelangelo's David and the Uffizi Gallery. Now, life pulses around the historical center of medieval and Renaissance character. As in the past, Florence welcomes, as friends, scores of foreigners descending into the city to study Italian culture, language and art. Available ProgramsLorenzo de'Medici
