Course Descriptions
Italian
Intensive vs. Super-intensive
Participants have the option of studying Italian at an intensive level
of 20 hours per week or a super-intensive level of 30 hours per week.
The super-intensive course includes provides the four hours of standard
lessons in the morning (20 hours per week), followed by two hours of
special lessons (with no more than three students at the same level)
in the afternoon. These classes focus on deepening the student's language
proficiency with emphasis on conversation and fluency.
It is possible to have a mix of intensive and super-intensive over
time. For example, two weeks of intensive, followed or preceded by two
weeks of super-intensive.
Both intensive and super-intensive follow the same course structure
of beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of study. See Special
Courses below for specialized areas of study for Italian and other topics.
Beginner /Elementary Courses
(2-Week, Monthly & Quarterly, 20/30 hours per week)
For proficiency levels: Beginner, Elementary I, and Elementary II
The courses provide a basic knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical
structures through a communicative - situational approach using audio-visual
aids. The course is aimed at the achievement of an adequate communicative
competence.
Intermediate Course
(2-Week, Monthly & Quarterly, 20/30 hours per week)
For proficiency levels: Intermediate I, II, and III
This course furnishes a deeper insight into grammar and syntax, enriches
the vocabulary and introduces the main aspects of Italian culture: literature,
art, music, cinema, theater, fashion, cooking, and other areas.
Advanced Course
(2-Week, Monthly & Quarterly, 20/30 hours per week)
For proficiency levels: Advanced I, II, III, and IV
This course furnishes a deeper insight into grammar and syntax, enriches
the vocabulary and introduces the main aspects of Italian culture: literature,
art, music, cinema, theater, fashion, cooking, and other topics.
Special Courses
Business Course
15 hours per week for one month
March , June
Besides reviewing and improving the main grammatical structures of Italian,
the course provides the technical and economic knowledge necessary for
modern commercial activities and enables the student to write a clear,
correct and concise letter using the appropriate vocabulary.
Music History Course
15 hours per week for one month -- May , September
Besides reviewing and improving the main grammatical structures of Italian,
the course develops the following topics:
1) the use of music in theater
2) an understanding of Italian opera
3) history, style, analysis of libretto and score.
Refresher Course on Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language to Adults
August, first week (five days/7 hours daily; groups of 10 participants)
This course will provide sessions on the theory and the practice of
teaching methods and strategies and an appreciation of language and
culture relevant to adult students.
Refresher Course on Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language to Children
Mid-August (5 days/7 hours daily; groups of 10-15 participants)
Methods, procedures and relevant classroom activities for this age
group will be established. in lectures and active sessions, participants
will develop strategies and resources indispensable of each and every
day class. Not least of all, providing materials that give an appreciation
of Italian language and culture relevant to children will be a priority.
